Exhaust With A Heart

Here’s another heart warming story about my little friend “Kirra”. You may have read in previous posts that she has made heart & swirl shapes for me especially to put in my blog and she often gets her mum to send me photos of the heart shaped things she has seen.

This is a photo of a car that pulled up near us one day and, as you can see, the number plates not only had her name on it … with the correct spelling I may add … and it also had her current age … 7!!!

We just had to take a photo because it was too much of a coincidence to ignore.  And that’s not all … not only did the little car bear her name and her age … but it had a little heart shaped exhaust!!!!

Yep, I kid you not and here is the photo evidence to prove it.  So if this isn’t evidence that the universe is looking after this little cherub I don’t know what is.

Thanks Kirra for today’s blog inspiration (yet again!!).  When you’re old enough to drive this little car would be perfect for you!!  🙂  🙂

The Way To A Man’s Heart…

Happy Valentines Day to all my loved ones!!!  The romantic side of me is definitely out and proud today … especially riding on the back of our 25 yr wedding anniversary last week!!

Well they say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach … so what culinary delight did I spoil my valentine with tonight for dinner?  A heart-shaped pizza of course!!   Yes, it was totally made from scratch by my own fair hands … and expertly cooked in our pizza oven by the MOTH (man of the house!!)

Vegetarian for me, 1st photo (mushrooms, artichokes, olives, roast pepper, capers and topped off with marinated Persian feta  🙂 ) … meat & seafood for him, at right (including fresh crab meat caught by a friend’s son in Adelaide over the weekend).

Ahhh … what a treat it was … yummy yummy down to the last morsel … there was not a crumb left to spare!!  The pizza base is a whole wheat recipe … it’s not a secret … so if anyone wants the recipe just leave a comment and I will send it to you (or email me julie@virtualangel.com.au)

Travelling Pineapples

Ha ha … couldn’t resist this one!!!  I snapped these cute greeting cards recently in the supermarket (or the stupid market as I fondly refer to it!!)

The first one that caught my eye was the photo of a beautiful beach scene shown through a heart shaped cut out … yep I thought … that’s a perfect way to take a photo of a holiday memory you want to keep forever.

Then I saw the funny card with the colourful little pineapples on a beach … and they’re wearing heart shaped sunglasses!!

Then my overactive imagination (sick humour some would say!) pictured the pineapples sending this card to their family in the tropics telling them what a wonderful time they were having on their honeymoon!!! So I popped the two cards together on the stand!!

Speaking of honeymoons … today my darling hubby & I are celebrating 25 years of marriage!   Happy Anniversary Anfy … love you!!  Looking forward to 25+ more years together xoxoxo

In The Moment

Do you sometimes feel that you’ve been spinning in an endless circle for days and never really getting anything accomplished?  This week was a busy one … not to the point where it was painful … because I like to be busy … but I felt like I had got to the end of my week so fast and couldn’t really picture what each day had been like.  It’s a bit like when you go for a drive and you arrive at your destination and don’t really remember anything from the journey … you sort of just turned up!!  Hmm, does that happen to other people or is it just me??!!

My deepest thinking always happens during my morning walk.  I often listen to inspirational podcasted radio shows while I walk … sometimes I listen intently the whole time, other times I listen for a bit and then it gets me thinking about something and I totally tune out to the person talking in my ear and have a conversation with myself in my head instead!  Then the music for the end of the radio show comes on and I haven’t listened to a word they’ve said!!!!

So how does this relate to hearts & swirls??  Well that was the topic of my conversation with myself this morning!! When I think of a heart I immediately become aware of my own heart … which is in the centre of my body … the image it conjures up in my mind brings my thoughts back to me … what am I doing at that moment and how am I feeling?  And so my mindless “doing” sort of stops for a moment and I reconnect with me and how I am “being”.

Similarly with a swirl …  it’s sort of a visualisation of how we can spin off from our core self into our daily busy lives … we’re still connected to our centre, but the momentum of our lives has taken us farther and farther away.  But we always have the ability to turn inwards and spin back to the centre again.

So I’m using hearts & swirls as touchstones, if you like … having them around me and where I can see them each day helps me to remember to be centred.  To breathe and just “be” for that little moment in time … it only needs to be a few seconds.  Maybe if I do this often enough I will remember more about what happened each day and when the end of the week comes around again it won’t feel like the week has just flashed before my eyes!!

A big thank you to Kirra, my little 7 yo friend who is always on the lookout for hearts and swirls for my blog.  She appeared one day with a plate and a handful of rocks and then proceeded to create these patterns so that I could photograph them. I love her generous heart in wanting to make me happy and be involved with my little project … and I love her imagination, creativity and resourcefulness.

Good Enough To Eat

Mmmmmmm baked cheesecake … with not one, but two swirls!!!!!

Not much to say about this tasty little delight except that:

1.  It was only half a portion … I shared the other half with my friend … so we were both only half as naughty!!

2.  We were celebrating my friend’s birthday so we told ourselves that this was definitely a special occasion to lash out and have dessert!!

2.  The swirls on the plate were definitely a sign from the universe that I should eat and enjoy it without any guilt!!

3.   It was thoroughly delectable and we enjoyed every mouthful!!  🙂 Yum Yum !!

In The Eye of the Beholder

Okay, so this isn’t the most beautiful or the most colourful heart I have posted to date!  I wonder if you can guess what it actually is …..  well I’m going to keep you guessing until the very end!!

I nearly walked by this little heart because it was so inconspicuous.  I took a second look and nearly walked on but something made me feel very protective of it … I just knew there was a message in there somewhere!!   So I took a snap and kept walking, wondering what the heck I would write about this one!!

After a few days of reflection, I realised that it doesn’t always have to be visual beauty that makes something so special … it’s the feelings that it invokes in you … what it represents to you … what memories it stirs up.  This was a little heart … perfectly formed and sitting there waiting for me to notice it.  Hearts remind me of love & happiness and so they conjure up good, positive feelings within in me … so it didn’t matter that this little heart was not colourful or quirky or mysterious … indeed it was very plain but it still made me stop and take notice because it was still a heart … and in doing so it gave me its little gift of  love!

So do you think you’ve guessed what it is??  I bet you didn’t!!

It’s a squashed piece of chewing gum on the pavement!!!   You will have to let me know if you guessed correctly!! 🙂

Heart Centre

I need to thank my lovely sister in law, Bernadette, for today’s “heart + swirl” inspiration.  This is a card from Louise Hay’s affirmation card deck … Bern pulled this card the day she first read my “1heartaday” blog post!!   I especially love the positioning of the swirl … right in the heart centre!!!

And so the message from this card is “I am centered in truth and peace”.   Yep, it’s a challenge to try to let go of all our grudges or negative thoughts about people or situations.  But why spend precious energy on feeling bad about something you can’t change … either because it is in the past or because it is out of your control.

I would rather spend my energy on thoughts and activities that bring me joy, inspiration, love, excitement, passion, peace, happiness.  Sometimes it’s not easy to always be in this frame of mind, daily life certainly delivers constant challenges, but visual reminders such as these affirmation cards can help bring our attention inward again and help us focus on things that really matter.  Thanks again Bern!  And thank you Louise Hay for continuing to being an inspirational shining light in our world.

Heart Reef

Who couldn’t help but get caught up in the promotional hype of the recent Oprah Winfrey visit!!  A bit OTT (over the top) for some … but I did think that her Australian Adventure special that aired on TV last night showed Australia’s best to the rest of the world. I couldn’t help but be proud of the beautiful images shown of Uluru, Sydney Harbor, Hamilton Island, and the Barrier Reef, to name just a few.

The most exciting part for me is when she flew in a helicopter over the Great Barrier Reef and hovered over a beautiful coral reef in the shape of a perfect heart … “Heart Reef”.  This naturally formed reef was discovered in 1975 by a Whitsunday pilot and is only 17 metres across.  I’d like to think that it’s the heart of the Great Barrier Reef itself!

When I saw the gorgeous blue water and the beautiful little heart shaped reef I decided that the Whitsundays was the perfect romantic getaway I had been looking for to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in February.  So Hamilton Island here we come in a few weeks … I’m going to look into booking a helicopter ride over Heart Reef too … how romantic would that be!!  I wonder if I can also get Curtis Stone to whip us up a beach bbq like he did for Oprah!!!!

A Squeaky Heart

Yep, even dogs need a bit of lovin’ every day! And what better way to get it than to chew your way through a plastic, squeaky bone emblazoned in love hearts!

Do you think that dogs would love this heart-adorned plastic toy more than a juicy, marrow filled, organic one?  It certainly wouldn’t taste the same I would imagine. But maybe it gives the dog a more loving, peaceful vibe while it is chewing!!

Or perhaps chewing the little hearts puts the dog into the right mood for a bit of romance … look out lady dogs if your male has one of these … you might be chased around the backyard tonight!!!!!

Heart Catcher!

I really don’t know what these little heart shaped baskets or nets are for!!!  I saw them in a beautiful homewares store the other day.  They were hiding amongst an array of outdoorsy type furniture, decor and knick knacks … all so beautifully displayed … a ploy of course to make you feel like your own home decorating style sucks and that you need to update it with their stylishly put together (not to mention expensive) ensemble!!!

The tag described them as “heart shaped nets” … are they meant to catch heart shaped fish or heart shaped butterflies maybe???  Or were they made by someone with romance in mind … specially crafted and magically able to capture someone’s heart?  Isn’t that a romantic notion??!!

I resisted the temptation and decided that I didn’t really need little heart shaped nets … although I did think they would look cute in the garden somewhere … where spiders could build heart shaped webs around them!!! 🙂
